On Thursday February 23rd, 2012, the Rotary Club of East Nassau celebrated the 107th birthday of Rotary in a very special way with an End Polio Now Lighting Ceremony held at the Royal Towers of the Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island.

At approximately 7:15pm, Charlyne Acree, sister of Rotarian Mike Russell and a Polio survivor, performed the honors by placing her palm on a biometric palm reader on an ipad and 'flipped the switch' lighting up the central column of the Royal Towers with the End Polio Now message. Some 120 attendees enjoyed a cocktail reception with incredible music by our very own Nathan Stone and the band, Jazz Etc. and a great time was had by all (especially Pres. Adam as you can see in the above picture by Ash Henderson).

100% of the entrance donation goes to the Polio Plus fund and due to the generosity of one of the non-Rotarian patrons, this will be more than doubled due to a donation of $3000 to the cause. To put this into appropriate perspective, the net funds being sent to Polio Plus will enable 10,000 doses of the polio vaccine to be distributed as a result of our event.

We owe a huge thank you to our sponsors, Atlantis, Doctors Hospital, The Rotary Clubs of the Bahamas, The Movi Group, Nathan Stone, The Training Authority, Builders Mall, Remax Paradise Island and Pinders Enterprises for making the event possible.
